Our History

Founded in 2017 by Timothy J. Burns (TJ), Burns Surveying LLC has grown from a small family operation into one of the most respected and capable surveying firms in Texas. We proudly serve homebuilders, realtors, title companies, real-estate attorneys, developers, engineers, builders, and commercial clients, providing accurate surveys, clear communication, and dependable turnaround times. What began with three people has evolved into a professional team of more than 100 employees across North Texas. Our service area extends throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and across North Texas—from Texarkana to Possum Kingdom Lake, and from Waco to the Red River. We are led by multiple licensed surveyors, including RPLS Barry S. Rhodes and RPLS Zach Nelson, with technical support from our Surveyor-in-Training, Kevin Brotherton. To support growing demand for construction-related surveying, Burns Surveying launched a dedicated Construction Survey Department under the leadership of Director of Construction & LiDAR Mapping, Jimmie Kenyon, expanding our capabilities into drone surveying, LiDAR scanning, and photogrammetry. As our company continues to progress, we remain committed to investing in technology, equipment, training, and exceptional staff, ensuring we deliver high-quality results with the professionalism and personal service that have defined us from day one. Though we have grown significantly, Burns Surveying remains family-owned and guided by its founding values—integrity, precision, accountability, and treating every employee and client with respect.
